However fragmented the world, however intense the national rivalries, it is an inexorable fact that we become more interdependent every day.Jacques Yves Cousteau

August 30th, 2010 Video update #7
Viti has demonstrated my belief on the onset of Free the Pod that it is possible to wild a tame animal as much as it is possible to tame a wild one. This video update shows him eating live fish, paramount for any release. He then ventures out to the open ocean of the facility following his protector in the canoe.
The concept is similar to "Fly Away Home" project done with Canadian Geese and the ultralight. We are not certain how it will develop but the process did work with Queen and we are hoping that once we are able to bring Viti closer to a pod of dolphins, it will work with him as well.
Viti still is in stable condition but is very vulnerable. I am hoping that collectively the groups that did not trust us with the last dolphins released will come together to ensure that Viti has a chance to be looked after as he deserves. Staff, fishermen and myself continue to struggle with funding but continue to be dedicated to Free The Pod.
Thank you for your continual interest in this project.
Free the Pod is dedicated to the world's first fully integrated release program of a pod of captive dolphins back to the wild featuring a longterm full follow-up and support system for the animals to support the adaptation of the animals and man's influence on them in this regard.
Free The Pod is the world's first long term integration release program of a captive pod of dolphins back to the wild.
Basis of Free The Pod
Dolphins and Whales are the clans of the sea and humans, as the clans of the land, have not fully compromised each of our needs and expectations of the other. Whaling debates are prevalent in International Relations and in such cases as Japan and Australia, threaten to destabilize peaceful discussions over such matters as trade and commerce. Each Country has the right to utilize natural resources in the matter they deem right and sustainable. It is our human right to assure that these needs are presented and maintained in a peaceful matter assuring that all sides of the equation are equal including the whales and dolphins.
Below is a list of the main objectives of Free The Pod:
1Integrated Release: processed release program of the dolphins to the wild in partnership with public follow-up.
2Hunting Alternatives: providing alternative sources of income for dolphin hunting and collecting communities.
3Enhanced Research: provide a broader base of research opportunities of animals interaction with man.
4Increased Tourism: decrease dependancy on hunting and collecting of animals through increase tourist activities.
5Community Development: provision of continual support for local villages church, school and health needs.
6International Dialogue: sparking and facilitating conversations on an umbrella approach of cetacean management.
Vancouverites won’t be voting on the fate of the Vancouver Aquarium’s whales and dolphins in the next civic election, but changes to the facility’s expansion plans could put the issue in front of the park board sooner than the scheduled date of 2015.
